Sara has two master degrees in Counselling Psychology from the University of British Columbia and Music Therapy from Wilfrid Laurier University. Her education represents the pairing of two allied and complimentary approaches in counselling and the expressive arts. Sara works from a growth mindset that is integrative, emotion-focused, strengths based, culturally sensitive, and trauma informed. She believes it is important to build a strong rapport with each unique client to meet their needs.
Sara works with adults, students, couples, and children. She has provided care for people struggling with anxiety, depression, grief, relationships, identity, self-esteem, and life transitions. Sara offers career counselling for students and professionals interested in personal growth and development. An area of specialty includes working with women, highly sensitive individuals, caregivers, and people from the LGBTQIA2S+ and BIPOC community.
As a certified music therapist, Sara works with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and ADHD. She also works with seniors with dementia and people with disabilities. Using music and the expressive arts can be a powerful way to build connection and deepen emotion. Some interventions can include listening and playing music, composing a song, drawing, guided imagery, and movement.
Sara has done additional training in trauma, Indigenous awareness, Emotionally Focused Therapy for individuals and couples, and Guided Imagery and Music.
In her free time, Sara contributes as the associate editor for the Canadian Journal of Music Therapy. She is particularly interested in health and wellness practices that are integrative from different parts of the world. She is an avid traveler, hiker, kayaker, yogi, and bunny lover.
